Massive Winter Storms Take a Toll on Vehicle Sales, Creating an Overall Decline Early in 2014 Q1, According to Data from the Website

Early March reports look good for the Auto Dealers impacted by the strong winter storms.

Data derived from the website seems to point Q1 into a dismal spiral. Massive winter storms, and now spring snow, have left many auto dealers in the north east and west, with over-budgeted costs in snow removal and clean up. According to Steve Mosely, Director of Sales for Showcase Media, "Seems dealers have spent their advertising budgets in early February on clean up related to the heavy winter storms. Most sales are coming out of necessity from crashes or breakdown, and not from passions by the normal auto shopper of this tax season."

The first two months of data points to 20% less sales than normal. Seems the population in the north east and west, are buying in a 60-day period, rather than the normal 30-cycle. Looks like the colder than normal temperatures have slowed the used car market, although there has been a new push in new car leasing. According to the site, the last quarter of 2013 was stable, and January and February have been slowly recovering from both the holidays and the winter storms.

Data shows a strong start for March has encouraged many auto dealers, and has seen an increased interest in print and digital advertising. "As the springtime snow slows down, shoppers are more excited than ever to get out and use their tax money, which is driving floor traffic and sales in March," states President of Showcase Media, Bob Draper. "We are confident that this will be our dealers’ best March in seven years! We have an overwhelming treaty of trust with our over 3500 independent dealers that were affected by these storms, and awe are elated to see an early turn around for March."
