Miami Law Firms to Compete in ‘Dare to Dodge’ Dodgeball Tournament Benefitting United Way of Miami-Dade
MIAMI (PRWEB) March 10, 2014 -- As part of its “GT Cares” community service program, the Miami office of the international law firm Greenberg Traurig will participate in the “Dare to Dodge” law firm vs. law firm dodgeball tournament this month to benefit the United Way of Miami-Dade. More than 200 attorneys and staff members from some of Miami’s top law firms will compete on different courts and face off in a single elimination round, complete with referees from Miami Dodgeball League, a giant trophy for the winner, and of course, major bragging rights. The event takes place from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 20, at Downtown Athletic Club, 200 S. Biscayne Blvd., Miami, FL, 33131.
The tournament, which Greenberg Traurig kicked off in 2011 as an internal fundraising initiative for the United Way, was expanded last year into a multi-law firm competition. This year’s event has doubled since last year to include eight law firms.
“We are thrilled that what began as an internal tournament at Greenberg Traurig has continued to grow into a community-wide tradition uniting Miami’s law firms in supporting the United Way,” said Daniel Marinberg, this year’s Greenberg Traurig team captain, and a real estate shareholder at the Greenberg Traurig Miami office. “This annual dodgeball tournament is an important part of our firm’s ‘GT Cares’ community service program, which raises money and provides support to local organizations working toward a greater good.”
All proceeds from the tournament benefit United Way’s work in education, health and financial stability. The money is raised from the entry fees paid by the participants. In addition to Greenberg Traurig, participating law firms include: Akerman; Berger Singerman; Bilzin Sumberg; Carlton Fields Jorden Burt; Fowler White Burnett; Holland & Knight; and Kluger, Kaplan, Silverman, Katzen and Levine.
“Dare to Dodge is a testament to how the United Way serves as a bridge linking our community and bringing diverse partners and competitors to the same table,” said Harve A. Mogul, CEO of the United Way of Miami-Dade. “We are excited to see these major legal players coming together to have fun, while supporting our important mission.”
