Locally Owned Burrito Shop Bueno Y Sano to Open Newest Location in West Springfield
West Springfield (PRWEB) March 13, 2014 -- Bueno Y Sano burrito shop is opening a new, fully renovated 2,000-square-foot location inside the Riverdale Shops, off Riverdale Road in West Springfield on Wednesday, 12 March. The new store will be the largest of its six locations, which include three others in the Pioneer Valley (Amherst, Northampton, and Springfield). The new store will be open seven days a week, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.
"The name 'Bueno Y Sano' means 'good and healthy' — those have been our watchwords since we first opened," said Bob Lowry, the restaurant's founder and co-owner. "Now, almost twenty years later, it's exciting to see what can happen when a business stays true to its values and to its customers."
Bueno Y Sano makes its own salsas, guacamole, and pico de gayo from scratch; freshly grills the chicken and steak served in its dishes; provides options of flour, whole wheat, and corn (gluten-free) tortilla wraps; and offers specialty vegetarian fillings (seitan and tofu) not available at most restaurants. A unique attribute of their preparation process is freshly sautéing ingredients per individual order. Their tacos are not served in fried shells, but as soft tacos.
Mr. Lowry said of the new store opening, "A lot of people put in a lot of time to get us to this point. There are folks who have been working with me since the very beginning. We are a family business that cares about being part of the community, and are all looking forward to putting down roots here in West Springfield."
Though it is a thoroughly renovated space, featuring state-of-the-art food preparation equipment, the new West Springfield store shares several features with other Bueno Y Sano locations. Among the most notable is the poured cement bar from which patrons can watch food being prepared. The store offers seating for 55 and is fully handicap accessible.
Bob Lowry is a graduate of UMass Amherst; he got the inspiration to open a burrito shop upon a return trip to the town to visit friends. He continues to be involved with the university, teaching courses on leadership and entrepreneurship. In addition to the four Pioneer Valley locations, Bueno Y Sano also has stores in Acton, MA, and Burlington, VT; the company estimates that since its first store opened it has served almost two million burritos.
