Online Talk Show Host Kirsty Spraggon Gives First of Its Kind TEDx Talk on Herpes with Worldwide Reaction
Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) March 12, 2014 -- Kirsty Spraggon, Founder and Host of online talk show, Kirsty TV revealed a personal secret to hundreds, then millions, as she took the stage at TEDxMalibu. “I have herpes,” she said nervously and slowly into the microphone. And with that private admission, a first of its kind TEDx moment, a worldwide reaction was set in motion.
Today, the host is celebrating the show’s one-year anniversary and milestone of 100,000 online views. In a powerful home video, never intended to be shared with the public, Spraggon spoke her confession for the first time. Determined to be vulnerable and spread the healing, Spraggon debuted the video as a preface to her TEDx Talk. Entitled, “You’re Only As Sick As Your Secrets,” the talk was posted on TEDx.com’s YouTube Channel, bringing the message to a worldwide audience.
The subject matter struck a chord with people of all ages, many offering words of support, others opening up about their own STDs. “Daughters are talking to their mothers and friends are sharing with one another, that they too have kept silent of their STD for fear of shame and rejection,” says Spraggon. “Everyone has a secret or something they don’t share with others because it holds some guilt or stigma and is something they keep bottled up for fear of rejection and judgment.
The truth is that they don’t always stay buried and can infect our lives, showing up as numbing, addictions, unhealthy relationships, self-loathing and anxiety. For me, the belief that I was not lovable manifested itself by the universe providing me with men who didn’t deserve me. Your desire to heal has to be greater than your fear.”
The confession while shocking to some, was an apropos gesture from the woman who has made a career of encouraging others to reveal their most personal secrets to the world.
