MDS Industries Company Director Ralph Simmons is appealing for help to raise money for two local charities. The Smethwick based industrial roller shutter door manufacturers are attempting to put together a team of 100 people who are prepared to run, walk or crawl the Great Midlands Fun Run on Sunday 1st June 2014. All money raised by the team will go to the Kelli Smith Appeal and the Boldmere Sports & Social Club function room fund.

The Kelli Smith Appeal is a charity that was set up to raise funds for 5 year old Kelli from Sutton Coldfield, who was diagnosed with Neuroblastoma, a rare form of cancer, at only 3 months old. For most of her life she has faced an ongoing fight against the illness and some gruelling treatments. With the help of the Kelli Smith Appeal, Kelli hopes to raise over £500,000 which will pay for life saving treatment. Sadly, Kelli’s Dad, Tom Attwater is stricken by terminal brain cancer. He is determined to see Kelli’s fundraising total surpass its target before he dies.

The second of Ralph’s chosen charities is to raise money for the completion of Boldmere Sports & Social Club’s brand new function room facilities. The room is partially built, but in order to protect the future of the club, it must be completed so that it can be up and running, ready to take bookings. Without the income of hiring out their function room, the club’s numerous sports teams may be in danger of folding.

Ralph Simmons said, “Tom and Kelli are a local family who need as much support as possible to achieve their long term goal, so it is vital we raise funds and awareness for them. It is difficult to mention the Boldmere function room in the same breath as Tom and Kelli’s story, however the Boldmere Social club requires financial assistance and support moving forward to ensure its long term future.”

To find out more information about joining Ralph’s team of 100, you can visit the MDS Industries Blog, however applications need to be in by 14 March 2014.
