Captain Sandy has been a river boat captain for more than 40 years with 18 of those years as the captain for the Spirit of the Red River Cruise.
The Spirit of the Red River Cruise travels between Shreveport-Bossier’s six river boat casinos: Horseshoe Casino and Hotel, Jimmy Buffet’s Margaritaville Resort Casino, Eldorado Resort Casino, Sam’s Town Hotel and Casino, DiamondJacks Casino Resort and Hotel and Boomtown Casino and Hotel. Sci-Port: Louisiana’s Science Center, The Outlets at the Louisiana Boardwalk and Bass Pro Shops are among the many popular attractions that can also be seen from the tour.
While on the hour-long tour, passengers travel through populated areas along the Red River, then head northwest for an authentic glimpse of the river’s natural terrain and working fishery. Throughout the tour Captain Sandy explains the eventful history of the Red River, as well as pointing out the wildlife and architecture of river homes, houseboats and historical bridges.
The wild life along the Red River is plentiful including waterfowl birds; water snakes; alligators; Great Blue Herons; Louisiana’s state bird, the Brown Pelican; and more. The Red River is also a prime spot for fishing with its abundance of bass and catfish.
