The Spirit of the Red River Cruise Starts 2014 Season on Tuesday, April 1
Shreveport-Bossier, LA (PRWEB) March 18, 2014 -- The Spirit of the Red River Cruise is a river boat tour along the Red River that offers guests a unique perspective of the river and its history, while showcasing the large variety of animals, architecture and other historical sites along the way. The 40-foot covered pontoon holds a maximum of 35 people with prices at $15 per person. Groups of 20 people receive a 10 percent discount. Captain Sandy Jackson will resume tours on Tuesday, April 1 and go through Nov. 31.
“What makes this tour so special is when I get to teach people about Shreveport-Bossier and the Red River’s history, especially the uses for the Red River during the Great Depression and U.S. wars,” said Captain Sandy. “This tour is such a great opportunity to gain memories, learn untold history and site see on this beautiful river.”
Captain Sandy has been a river boat captain for more than 40 years with 18 of those years as the captain for the Spirit of the Red River Cruise.
The Spirit of the Red River Cruise travels between Shreveport-Bossier’s six river boat casinos: Horseshoe Casino and Hotel, Jimmy Buffet’s Margaritaville Resort Casino, Eldorado Resort Casino, Sam’s Town Hotel and Casino, DiamondJacks Casino Resort and Hotel and Boomtown Casino and Hotel. Sci-Port: Louisiana’s Science Center, The Outlets at the Louisiana Boardwalk and Bass Pro Shops are among the many popular attractions that can also be seen from the tour.
While on the hour-long tour, passengers travel through populated areas along the Red River, then head northwest for an authentic glimpse of the river’s natural terrain and working fishery. Throughout the tour Captain Sandy explains the eventful history of the Red River, as well as pointing out the wildlife and architecture of river homes, houseboats and historical bridges.
The wild life along the Red River is plentiful including waterfowl birds; water snakes; alligators; Great Blue Herons; Louisiana’s state bird, the Brown Pelican; and more. The Red River is also a prime spot for fishing with its abundance of bass and catfish.
With passengers coming from Hawaii, Canada, Germany, Australia and other countries across the globe, this river boat tour makes for a priceless and remarkable adventure in Shreveport-Bossier. The Spirit of the Red River Cruise docks directly across from Sci-Port: Louisiana’s Science Center on Clyde Fant Parkway in downtown Shreveport. Tour times are 10 a.m.-5 p.m., Thursday-Saturday, and Noon-5 p.m. on Sundays. Tours begin at the top of each hour.
