At a time when companies are still finding their legs after the recession, Strategic Franchising Systems is running full speed ahead. Founded in 1997, the company recently surpassed 1,000 franchise units, consisting of six brands: Caring Transitions, Fresh Coat Painters, Home Helpers, Direct Link, The Growth Coach and TruBlue Total House Care.
“Strategic Franchising Systems is strong as a company because of the strength of our individual brands. By working together, we’ve been able to combine our resources to better serve all of our owners, which has helped us grow,” said Emma Dickinson, president of Home Helpers & Direct Link – the two largest brands in the system.
But working together goes beyond shared resources; it also means having a powerful executive team to work with every day.
“Each and every member of the executive team and the staff has their own skills and gifts they bring to the company. Having such a diverse CEO roundtable in the building is extremely unique and beneficial. From a growth standpoint, being able to walk down the hall and discuss ideas or challenges with the other leaders has an amazing impact on the development of our individual businesses and each other,” Dickison added.
Strategic Franchising Systems began in 1997 with the founding of Home Helpers, a home care franchise specializing in non-medical, companion and personal care that was ranked the #1 senior care franchise for five consecutive years by Entrepreneur Magazine.
Over the years, Home Helpers has grown and broadened its scope of services. Today, it is one of only five national brands identified with having at least 300 locations, and it is part of a mere 15 percent of national non-medical senior care franchise brands expanding into skilled medical services.
“Our mission is to be able to meet all of our clients’ needs, whether they are looking for a companion or they need full skilled medical services. We want to make sure everyone has the ability to remain independent as long as they possibly can, so we’ll be rolling out services to allow that to happen in more places,” said Dickison. “Most companies either provide non-skilled care or skilled care. We’re one of the few that can offer both in participating locations. This allows those offices participating to provide a broader, more complete continuum of care.
In 1999, Direct Link was established as a complement to Home Helpers by offering 24/7 in-home medical emergency monitoring for the booming senior market. Direct Link is a complete, ready-to-operate franchise offering personal emergency response systems, medication dispensers and vital signs monitoring units. Its ever-expanding line of products supplements the care services provided by Home Helpers caregivers.
Founded in 2006, the Caring Transitions franchise is leading the way in senior moving, household liquidations and estate sales management across the United States. As the only national business to specialize in this particular service, Caring Transitions has a unique role among the nation’s aging population.
“Over the last two years, we’ve really latched onto our niche throughout the country. We’ve had seven years of solid growth and, moving forward, we’ll be rolling out newly developed tools to better serve our owners and their clients,” said Christopher Seman, president of Caring Transitions. “Being part of the Strategic Franchising family has had a profound impact on Caring Transitions. As we’ve worked to build this brand, we’ve been able to work with the resources of a company that’s 1,000 units strong.”
Fresh Coat Painters
Fresh Coat Painters, one of the more rapidly growing franchises in the network, was founded in 2005 with the mission of bringing quality customer service, top-notch painting products, professionalism and affordable pricing to a business that often struggles in all of these areas. Fresh Coat Painting offers residential and commercial painting; quality, environmentally safe materials; a 24/7 customer service center; online scheduling and detailed quotes. All of the painting teams in the network also are employees, not contractors.
“Fresh Coat Painters is at the point where we’re really taking off. We have more than 100 units now and, in three years, we’re expecting to be at 400 units around the world. It’s a great time to be part of this business,” said Bernie Brozek, president of Fresh Coat Painters.
The Growth Coach
Founded in 2002, The Growth Coach is the only pure business and sales coaching franchise system with the single purpose of helping drive success and balance lives. Growth Coaches work with small business owners, franchise owners, management teams, CEOs, self-employed professionals and sales professionals among others.
“The Growth Coach is at the cusp of becoming an industry defining brand. Our proven business and sales coaching experience combined with the new tools we’re releasing and the focus on international expansion… We’re looking at huge growth over the next few years,” said Nathan Owens, president of The Growth Coach. “The Growth Coach is all about helping people find their ‘Why’ – the reason they do what they do – and improving the world one community at a time. When we can help make a business more successful, everyone benefits.”
TruBlue Total House Care
The most recent addition to the Strategic Franchising Systems, TruBlue Total House Care specializes property management, including household repairs and maintenance, maid services, seasonal work, home improvements, emergency repairs and more. Founded in 2011, this franchise is aimed at helping seniors and busy adults avoid the stresses of home ownership.
“Total house care is a service anyone can benefit from, especially seniors and busy adults. As we move into the next few years, we’ll be growing the TruBlue franchise network to serve more homeowners around the country,” said Brian Peters, chief operating officer of TruBlue. “Being part of the Strategic Franchising Systems family has made a huge difference for TruBlue because, rather than start a company with extremely limited resources, we launched with the power of a 1,000 units-strong company.”
Although each franchise has its own background, future and priorities, one thing is certain: The power of working together will continue to pay off.
According to Brozek, “All of the brands are starting to realize what company they’re in and how strong each of the brands can be when we work together. Part of our success is the sheer power of numbers and the ability to share resources at a lower cost, but it’s more than that. Working together and sharing ideas has become a vital part of each of the brands’ success.”
