Mashable Announces Jonathan Ellis as Its New Managing Editor
New York, NY (PRWEB) March 12, 2014 -- Mashable, the leading media company for the Connected Generation and the voice of digital culture, announced today that it has hired Jonathan Ellis as its Managing Editor.
As Managing Editor, Ellis will oversee the daily news report and manage Mashable’s team of news editors. He will work closely with Mashable's product team in developing new tools and ways of reaching and interacting Mashable's audience. He will also play a big role in developing new editorial initiatives, starting with Mashable’s recently announced plans to build out travel coverage.
“Jonathan’s keen news sensibility combined with experience in building and experimenting with interactive storytelling techniques will be a huge asset as we aggressively grow all that Mashable has to offer our community,” said Jim Roberts, Chief Content Officer and Executive Editor of Mashable. “Jonathan’s experience across news and platforms makes him exactly the talent that is core to Mashable’s growing newsroom.”
Ellis joins from The New York Times, where he was most recently senior editor for digital platforms, leading a team of newsroom editors who helped tailor the Times’ mobile products and news report. He was also part of the team that worked to develop the company’s mobile strategy.
While at The Times, he held many roles: From Jan. 2009 to May 2011, he was one of the lead digital news editors for the Times, and was instrumental in the site’s coverage of such stories as the Times Square bomber, the blizzard of 2010 and the assassination of Osama bin Laden. Before that, he was a politics producer, coordinating digital coverage of the 2008 Presidential election, and a homepage producer. He joined The Times in 2006 as a digital producer.
Ellis is a graduate of Brown University, where he studied public policy and computer science.
Ellis joins Mashable on March 31st. He can be found on Twitter at @jonathanellis.
