Granicus Launches Talent Community as an Innovative Way to Recruit Tech Talent in San Francisco

Talent community to help Granicus grow its team by 30% in 2014

The experience for candidates in an Ascendify talent community is unparalleled.

Granicus, the leading San Francisco-based government cloud platform provider, recently launched a talent community within its new website to help grow its employee base by 30% in 2014.

“Granicus is not immune to the recruiting challenges that most Silicon Valley companies competing for tech talent face. Our experience with traditional recruiting methods such as headhunters, job boards and online advertising have been costly and ineffective at identifying quality talent,” said Tom Spengler, CEO and co-founder. “In fact, we hear that over 30% of developers never check job boards,” he added.

Unemployment rates for engineers are at nearly 0%, and the industry is struggling to fill four times as many openings for engineers, as there are qualified people to fill them. Given the competitive environment, Granicus decided to make a dramatic change to the way it recruits for top talent.

To achieve this, Granicus partnered with Ascendify, an award winning talent acquisition platform, to build a talent community. Ascendify will help Granicus accomplish its 30% growth goals this year by focusing on building relationships with talent in the community and incentivizing employees to refer their network into the talent community.

Identifying unique traits in candidates
Like many Silicon Valley tech companies, Granicus hires for specific skills matched to a specific job opening. However, the company also places a big emphasis on hiring candidates who demonstrate a track record of leadership and success in previous work or school experience. And, ultimately, they look for someone who fits into the Granicus culture.

“Our hiring strategy goes beyond looking at mandatory skills. We also look for candidates who have a strong pattern of success, a true passion for the work we need them to do, and see our position as a real career opportunity for them. The Ascendify platform gives us a way to offer candidates the option of joining our community instead of requiring they apply to a specific job. Over a third of the candidates in our community have joined simply because they think they’d fit the company culture – this flexibility allows us to consider a broader spectrum of candidates for a broader spectrum of job roles, ” added Spengler. If Granicus had relied on job advertisements only, they would have missed out on the chance to connect with over a third of the candidates in their talent pool today.

Improving the candidate’s experience
Granicus selected Ascendify’s talent community because of its focus on optimizing the candidate’s experience. Matt Hendrickson, Ascendify’s Founder & CEO says, “The experience for candidates in an Ascendify talent community is unparalleled. It’s such a refreshing departure from the ‘black-hole’ application process of the past.” When candidates join Granicus’ talent community, they get a dashboard to manage their application process with real-time status updates. Integrations with LinkedIn and Facebook give candidates the ability to see who they know at Granicus, so they can ask for a referral and improve their chances of being selected. Candidates can even join the community and apply to jobs with one click on their mobile device.

If you’re interested in working for Granicus, or experiencing the company culture for yourself, join the talent community.
