We have created community workshops that we are delivering to coaches, trainers, athletes and parents that will improve the safety and well-being of our nation’s youth.

The Youth Sports Safety Alliance is comprised of a group of organizations committed to raising awareness and focusing the public’s attention on all youth sports injuries including catastrophic injuries and death in young athletes. The YSSA was founded by the National Athletic Trainers’ Association and since 2010 has worked to raise safety awareness for youth athletes in sports through annual safety summits. According to the YSSA more than 7.7 million high school athletes participated in school sports during the 2012-2013 school year and overall an estimated 46.5 million kids played team sports in the United States. This resulted in an estimated 1.35 million children visiting emergency departments in 2012.
Sport and Spine Rehab chiropractor and CEO Dr. Jay Greenstein represented the American Chiropractic Association's Council on Sports Injuries and Physical Fitness at the fifth annual Youth Sports Safety Summit in Washington DC on Monday.
In addition to being National Athletic Training Month, March is also Brain Injury Awareness Month. Dr. Greenstein’s team will be hosting four free sessions at four of their Sport and Spine Rehab, Washington DC metro locations at the end of March and early April. These presentations will be geared towards parents of young athletes, coaches, trainers, and others involved in youth sports. Two of those sessions will focus on concussions and two on injury prevention in general. Greenstein was one of the principals involved in developing the content. "We have created community workshops that we are delivering to coaches, trainers, athletes and parents that will improve the safety and well-being of our nation’s youth,” said Greenstein.
In addition to convening the summit on Monday, the National Athletic Trainers’ Association announced that a new position statement on concussions in youth sports will be published in the March Journal of Athletic Training, NATA’s scientific publication.
