Lincolnshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust Uses BigHand's Voice Productivity Technology To Enhance Patient Care Whilst On The Move
London, UK (PRWEB UK) 19 March 2014 -- Lincolnshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust is seeing significant time savings in the hours spent executing administrative work each day following the implementation of BigHand’s digital dictation system. BigHand’s solution, which was rolled out following a six month pilot, has replaced a previous analogue tape-based method of recording and transcribing.
The trust, which provides specialist health services for people with a learning disability, mental health or drug and alcohol problem both in the local community and hospital if required, has used BigHand; a specialist provider of digital dictation, speech understanding and clinical correspondence solutions to improve the ease and efficiency of workflow for its clinicians and administrative staff to help accelerate the delivery of patient care.
James Pryke-Walker, Project Manager, Lincolnshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, comments, “Our consultants were using an outdated tape-based system to record and transcribe their notes from patient interactions. Whilst this turnaround time was reasonable, we thought it could be further improved by utilising the latest digital dictation technology. We needed a solution that was flexible and robust and BigHand’s technology is exactly that.”
The implementation, which was rolled out in a phased approach across the Trust to over 150 users, sees clinicians, doctors and secretaries use BigHand’s market leading voice productivity software and a number of smartphone licences to drive the delivery of care and help with operational efficiencies, whilst working both remotely and within the Trust. This system includes advanced speech recognition analytics which enables more sophisticated management reporting to promote best practice and help resource planning.
James continues, “Our clinicians spend a lot of time providing care in various community settings across the county. We recognised the need for a system that would allow them to send their notes instantly from wherever they were, without having to return to base. With BigHand this is now achievable and we have not only seen significant time savings and decreased turnaround time, but now have 100% control over security and where our notes are at all times without the worry of them becoming lost or accidently deleted.”
The Trust also has a small number of voice recognition users which when piloted saw outstanding results. “During the six month trial period, a number of our staff with a variety of accents, used BigHand’s voice recognition technology. With the right support and training it produced extremely accurate notes and we were also able to preload all of our medication information onto the system.”
Since implementation, the scope of the system has widened with further developments now planned. James continues, “The next phase with BigHand will see the use of the technology on iPads and iPhones as it’s becoming increasingly evident that the use of mobile, tablet and smartphone technologies is a sensible investment for us.”
James Pryke-Walker concludes, “BigHand has not only offered an extremely high level of service but technology that is helping to improve the way in which our clinicians deliver care. We are confident that we are going to continue to see beneficial time and cost savings into the future.”
BigHand offers GPs, clinicians, medical secretaries and other staff an intuitive, easy-to-use interface enabling them to easily create, track, transcribe and manage individual workloads. It also gives the option to seamlessly integrate options such as speech recognition, outsourcing or smartphone-based dictation.
