Denver, Colorado (PRWEB) March 14, 2014 -- Since their first hit “Bohemian Rhapsody” in 1976, iconic British rock band Queen has done anything but bite the dust. As of 2005, according to the Guinness Book of World Records, Queen albums have spent a total of 1,322 weeks (26 years) on the UK Album Charts, more time than any other artist.
In addition, as one of the best-selling musical acts of all time, the band has sold over 150 million albums around the globe, including 18 Number One albums and 18 Number One singles including the band's best-selling single "Another One Bites the Dust" in 1980, which has sold over seven million copies to date.
And now, like they have in the past, the two remaining original band members Roger Taylor and Brian May are teaming up with Adam Lambert for this year’s Summer Tour. Queen performed with Lambert on American Idol in 2009, at the MTV European Music Awards in 2011, at last year’s iHeartRadio Music Festival in Las Vegas and on a European tour in the summer of 2012.
This year's 19-date US tour opens at the United Center in Chicago, Illinois on June 19, with the current wrap set for the Merriweather Post Pavilion outside Washington D.C. in Columbia, Maryland on July 20, 2014.
“Since taking the runner-up spot in the eighth series of American Idol, Adam Lambert has won international acclaim for his rich tenor voice, as well as his theatrical style and on-stage showmanship. But he admits following in the footsteps of band founder Freddie Mercury – regarded by many as the greatest rock band front-man – has not been easy,” said Marta Ault at online ticket marketplace BuyAnySeat.com.
“Once tickets were officially released today, they immediately shot to the top of concert sales queues across the country. That’s why we’re proud to be able to offer fans the most complete and continuously refreshed selection of tickets online, with a worry-free guarantee to protect their purchase,” added Ault.
“To access the full line-up of Queen and Adam Lambert tickets we have available, fans can go to BuyAnySeat.com and search for Queen and Adam Lambert – then select their tickets.”
After forming in 1970, Queen’s 1977 album, News of the World, contained two of rock's most recognizable anthems, "We Will Rock You" and "We Are the Champions". By the early 1980s, Queen was known as one of the biggest stadium rock bands in the world, and their performance at 1985's Live Aid was voted best live act in history by an industry poll in 2005.
In 1991, Mercury died of bronchopneumonia, a complication of AIDS, and the other original member, bass guitarist John Deacon retired in 1997. Since then, the two other original band members Brian May and Roger Taylor have performed infrequently together, including a collaboration with Paul Rodgers under the name Queen + Paul Rodgers which ended in May 2009.
In 2002, Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody" was voted "the UK's favorite hit of all time” in a poll conducted by the Guinness World Records British Hit Singles Book, and in 2004 the song was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame. In 2007, Queen was also voted the greatest British band in history by BBC Radio 2 listeners.
And in 2009, "We Will Rock You" and "We Are the Champions" were also inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame, and the latter was named the world's favorite song in a global music poll. (Source: wikipedia.org)
The group itself was Inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2001. The band is also the only act in which every member has composed more than one chart-topping single, and as a result, all four members were selected for inclusion into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2003.
After opening in Chicago, Queen and Adam Lambert travel to Winnipeg, Saskatoon, Edmonton, Calgary, Vancouver, San Jose, Inglewood, Las Vegas, Houston, Dallas, Auburn Hills, Toronto, Montreal, Philadelphia, New York and Uncasville before wrapping in Columbia, Maryland.
