March 29th marks the second anniversary of a hail storm that devastated Hidalgo County, Texas. To make matters worse, the area was hit with a second hail storm less than a month later on April 20th, 2012.

Two years later, many residents in the area are still struggling to rebuild their homes to pre-storm conditions. The storms caused an estimated $260 million in damage to hundreds of local businesses and thousands of homes. According to the National Weather Service, winds in the area reached as high as 75 miles per hour with an astonishing four to six inches of rain falling in less than two hours. In some areas, as much as six inches of hail accumulated on the ground.

“The impact these hail storms had on McAllen and the rest of Hidalgo County was devastating,” said Rene Sigman, an attorney with the Mostyn Law. “So many business owners and families are still struggling to recover. We are working hard to ensure that these people are made whole, but time is of the essence. Their homes and businesses need to be repaired so that the people of Hidalgo County can get back to living their lives.”

Mostyn Law attorneys have been communicating with McAllen citizens since the storms. The district courts in Hidalgo County have issued a standing pre-trial order that allows parties to exchange information and attend mediation early. The goal is to achieve a quick resolution to the lawsuits while keeping expenses down.

“The people making these claims are honest and hardworking,” Sigman added. “They paid their premiums and many of them have never made a claim against their insurance policies until now. They simply want to be fairly compensated for their damages by their insurance companies. Everyone deserves the right to feel safe, secure, and comfortable in their own home.”

Sigman added that Mostyn Law will work to gain the most favorable judgment for its clients and members of the Hidalgo County community.
