Stratford School to Attend We Day, California 2014
Palo Alto, California (PRWEB) March 18, 2014 -- Stratford School to attend We Day, California 2014 – an inspirational event that empowers young people to lead global and local change. We Day is tied to the yearlong We Act program, which offers curricular resources, campaigns, and materials to help turn inspiration into sustained activation. We Day and We Act transform participants into active global citizens.
We Day, California 2014 will be held at the Oracle Arena in Oakland, CA on March 26, 2014, bringing together tens of thousands of student leaders and inspirational speakers. The event is free to attend – but students must earn their ticket by acting on at least one local and one global initiative of their choice. The We Act program encourages students to do this through many different service and philanthropic efforts.
Students of Stratford School, Palo Alto earned their ticket to We Day by participating in the Second Harvest Food Bank, in which they collected 1,227 pounds of food, and Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF, in which they earned $324.45.
Stratford School, Palo Alto also encouraged their entire campus to participate in a We Act specific initiative – sales of Rafiki Friend Chains made by artisans overseas. A Rafiki Friend Chain is a 48” long, stretchy chain with glass beads. Each piece is unique and handmade, and can be worn as a necklace, bracelet, anklet, or headband.
100% of proceeds from sales of Rafiki Friend Chains support a specific cause noted on each package, including education, water, food, healthcare, and sustainable income; and TrackYourImpact.com allows you to see where in the world your “life-changing gift” was delivered.
Stratford School students are proud to have led some local and global change, and they aren’t waiting until after We Day to continue. A number of inspired students have initiated their own philanthropic efforts like sales of smoothies, home made bracelets, and pencil holders at various campus events. Funds raised from these events will be donated to the UNICEF Tap Project to help children in need of clean water.
Since 2007, youth involved in We Act have achieved remarkable results, including:
• $37 million raised for 1,000 causes
• 9.6 million hours volunteered for local and global causes
• 4 million pounds of food collected by youth
• 7.5 million hours of silence logged by youth who took a stand for children in developing communities who are denied their rights
We Day, California 2014 speakers and performers include: Selena Gomez, Seth Rogan, Magic Johnson, Orlando Bloom, Martin Luther King III, Lauren Miller, Martin Sheen, Jesse Giddings, The Tenors, Craig and Marc Kielburger, Molly Burke, and Hannah Alper, with more to be announced soon!
