Keynote Presentation on Crisis Management

In a time of change, every company should have a strategy in place in case of a sudden crisis.

Daniel Diermeier, PhD, will be the Keynote Speaker at the 33rd edition of Seafood Expo North America/Seafood Processing North America, being held March 16-18 at the Boston Convention & Exhibition Center. Professor Diermeier’s keynote address “Reputation Management beyond the Obvious” will take place on Sunday, March 16 at 2:00PM and is open to all Seafood Expo North America attendees.

Daniel Diermeier is the IBM Professor of Regulation and Competitive Practice in the Department of Managerial Economics and Decision Sciences at the Kellogg School of Management and the director of the Ford Motor Company Center for Global Citizenship. In addition, he holds faculty appointments at the Department of Political Science, the Department of Linguistics and the School of Law, all at Northwestern University.

Reputation has moved to the top of the agenda for many CEOs and boards. What used to be a “nice to have” is now increasingly considered a core asset that needs to be protected and actively managed. Reputational damage can hurt a company in many ways. New (especially user generated) media and increased globalization have only accelerated this trend.

In this session, Professor Diermeier will introduce new approaches to reputation management that add rigor to a notoriously vague and undefined area. Discussion about effective strategies to management reputational crises and to interact with NGOs, interest groups, and the media will be on the agenda. Professor Diermeier will also go over the essential elements for creating a reputation management capability and how to integrate such a capability with business practices and corporate strategy.

“In a time of change, every company should have a strategy in place in case of a sudden crisis,” says Liz Plizga, Show Director for Diversified Communications, producers of the expo. “Attending Professor Diermeier’s timely topic will arm attendees with the tools they need to overcome direct challenges from influential sources and help them build a reputation management process into everyday operations.”

Professor Diermeier has received numerous awards including the prestigious Faculty Pioneer Award from the Aspen Institute in 2007, named the “Oscar of Business Schools” by the Financial Times and the 2001 Professor of the Year Award at the Kellogg School of Management. In 2012 he was included among the World’s Best 50 Business School Professors by Fortune magazine.

His teaching and research focuses on political institutions, the interaction of business and politics, crisis leadership, reputation management, and strategic aspects of corporate social responsibility. He has advised many of the world’s leading companies including: Abbott Laboratories, Accenture, Allianz, Baxter International, BP, Edelman, Eisai, Ernst & Young, Exelon, the FBI, General Mills, W.W. Grainger, Hyatt, Johnson & Johnson, Kraft, McDonald’s, Medtronic, Metro AG, PricewaterhouseCoopers, Shell, State Farm, Takeda, Target, and UnitedHealth Group.
