Warwick Forest Welcomes New Medical Director To Lead Primary Care Practice On Campus
Newport News, Va. (PRWEB) March 16, 2014 -- Warwick Forest is pleased to announce that Dr. Emmeline Gasink has joined the retirement community as a Certified Medical Director offering a primary care practice for the residents right on campus.
Warwick Forest is one of three Riverside Health System Continuing Care Retirement Communities (CCRC). Located in Newport News, Va. on the Yorktown border, Warwick Forest offers multiple levels of care – from independent living to nursing – for residents 60 and older.
“As a resident’s primary care provider, the goal would be for me to follow them through the continuum on the Warwick Forest campus,” said Dr. Gasink. “This helps with the continuity of care and allows the team…to understand the patient’s medical history and baseline function much better.”
Board Certified in Family Medicine, Dr. Gasink’s areas of focus include family medicine, transitions of care and geriatric medicine.
In her new role, she will lead the clinical development and medical direction of the community working closely with Dr. Joe Ward, Medical Director of The Gardens at Warwick Forest. Dr. Gasink and Dr. Ward will be provider medical coverage for residents of the Warwick Forest campus and are part of the Lifelong Health provider group. Dr. Gasink will also build the primary care practice during her clinic hours Monday through Friday. On call and after hours coverage with a geriatrician will remain.
Offering new and innovative models of care for older adults is a staple of Riverside Health System’s Lifelong Health and Aging Related Services Division.
The appointment of Dr. Gasink marks the second Riverside CCRC to offer this level of physician practice on campus.
“Older adults are a vulnerable population that demand care coordination at a much higher level than other age groups,” Dr. Gasink said. “Riverside is in a unique position to better coordinate care through…the wide variety of clinical resources. The (Lifelong Health) division has always been committed to focusing care to this age group and the CCRCs are an example of this on a campus-wide scale.”
Dr. Gasink graduated from Eastern Virginia Medical School and completed her residency at the Riverside Family Medicine Residency in Newport News. She was drawn to work with older adults based on her experience in family medicine and seeing the impact that illness can have on an entire family.
Before joining the Warwick Forest team, Dr. Gasink served as the Medical Director at Williamsburg Landing, another retirement community in the region.
“Working with older adults allows me to educate the families,” Dr. Gasink said. “I learn a lot from this population and feel privileged to be a part of their care.”
