VeloComputer Jumpstarts Production of New Magnet-less Bicycle Sensors
Vancouver, Canada (PRWEB) March 18, 2014 -- SoundOfMotion Technologies Inc., the creator of VeloComputer, launches a campaign on crowd funding site Indiegogo.com pledging to the cyclists' community for help accelerating the manufacturing of its new Magnet-less VeloComputer HUB and SEAT sensors for bicycles. The new sensors come in 2 versions: ANT+ and Bluetooth Smart 4.0 (low energy) wireless technology. ANT+ is used primarily by Garmin sport watches and Bluetooth Smart by smartphones, like Android and iPhone.
VeloComputer HUB Magnet-less sensor can detect forward and reverse wheel motion with 1 inch, 25 millimeters precision. It is 100 times more precise than any traditional cycling speed sensor. This precision reduces data latency and allows to accurately calculate spot speed and acceleration. The VeloComputer HUB sensor attaches to a hub of a bicycle wheel with a simple snap-over mount without any tools. It is powered by a standard coin cell battery lasting over 200 hours.
“Cyclists usually have to adjust a magnet on a spoke after mounting or changing wheels,” said founder Vlad Savchenko. “This is a hassle. Traditional speed sensors use a magnet to count wheel revolutions. This gives only 7 feet, over 2 meters, precision and substantially increases latency in data transmission.”
Another Magnet-less sensor - VeloComputer SEAT sensor - measures grade of a slope and cadence. Using gyro and accelerometer the sensor instantly detects change of a road slope. The grade of a road slope is measured in percentage. The cadence is extracted from a lateral motion of the seat post, when the cyclist is pedaling, and measured in rotations per minute, RPM. The VeloComputer SEAT sensor attaches to a seat post of a bicycle with a simple snap-over mount without any tools. It is powered by a standard coin cell battery lasting over 300 hours.
Both HUB and SEAT sensors support standard ANT+ and Bluetooth Smart speed and cadence profiles for full wheel revolution, the 360-degree precision.
They also offer 1” inch precision distance, spot speed, acceleration and grade Bluetooth Smart profiles for VeloComputer application for Android and iPhone.
The new VeloComputer HUB and SEAT sensors can be pre-ordered at Indiegogo.com. SoundOfMotion offers limited number of sensors for as low as US $29. The retail price of each sensor is suggested at US $59.
