We like to support British manufacturing wherever we can, so it's brilliant to add Walsh, which are made in Bolton, the same as they were when they were first established in 1961.
Scarborough, North Yorkshire (PRWEB UK) 18 March 2014
Retro and heritage fashion retailer Atom Retro has added trainers brand Walsh to their growing British-made brand collection for spring 2014 with the introduction of two styles, Ensign and Lostock, both hand-crafted at Walsh's Bolton based factory.
“We're excited to announce the arrival of Walsh trainers at Atom Retro,” footwear buyer, Lindsey Hagston said. “They've already proven popular with our customers in the couple of weeks they've been on our website and we've already booked more styles and colours to arrive later in the year.”
Walsh is Britain's only wholly owned, designed and manufactured sports footwear. The range is steeped in British and sports heritage featuring retro trainers with a real sense of history. “For spring we're concentrating on the Ensign and Lostock styles,” Lindsey says. “These two trainers offer a retro look with a defined sense of 'British-ness' and history, something which isn't often found in trainer style footwear.”
The Walsh Lowstock trainer was first launched in 1985, a trail-running shoe named after a hilly district of Bolton where it was frequently used. The Walsh Ensign trainer was developed in 1981 for the Bolton Harriers to wear during the New York marathon. Both these styles are available at Atom Retro in two colours each.
“We like to support British manufacturing wherever we can,” Lindsey says, “so it's brilliant to add Walsh, which are made in Bolton, the same as they were when they were first established in 1961.”
Atom Retro already stock quite a few British and made in England clothing brands, including John Smedley, Baracuta, Gloverall and Pantherella socks who manufacture either all or part of their ranges in the UK. Atom Retro also manufacture part of their own brand, Madcap England in Britain.
“Currently we make some knitwear and jeans in the UK,” Lindsey said. “This is something we're looking to extend in the future. As well as it being important to us to support British manufacturing, British-made clothing also appeals to our international customers. British manufacture has a reputation for good quality and an authenticity which a lot of our fashion conscious non-UK based customers want. This is already been the case with Walsh, as two thirds of our orders for Walsh trainers have been from customers outside the UK.”
Walsh trainers are the first made in England footwear brand to be added to Atom Retro's catalogue. In addition to this, British brand, Peter Werth are launching a limited made in England range for Autumn which will be online at Atom Retro later this year.
