Transamerica and RetirementJobs.com Form Alliance to Help Americans Age 50+ Land Non-Profit Jobs and Volunteer Positions
Waltham, MA (PRWEB) March 18, 2014 -- Transamerica, a leader in retirement savings and income solutions, and RetirementJobs.com, Inc., the No. 1 career website for job-seekers age 50+ with more than one million members, today announced an agreement to help Americans obtain jobs and volunteer positions with non-profit organizations as part of their ‘new retirement.’
“People approaching and in retirement want an opportunity for a steady, dependable array of incomes while giving back to their community,” said Phil Eckman, President, Personal Retirement Services for Transamerica. “We help people save and invest wisely to secure their retirement dreams. For many people, this may include working or volunteering as they approach or transition into retirement. So it makes perfect sense to be expanding our relationship with RetirementJobs.com.”
The agreement enables non-profits in the U.S. to post listings at no charge. Transamerica will underwrite the standard posting fees in the ‘non-profit jobs’ and ‘volunteer positions’ categories, which are being created on the website for the first time since it launched in 2006.
“We are excited to introduce these frequently requested categories,” said Tim Driver, Founder and CEO of RetirementJobs.com. “With this initiative, we’re enabling non-profits to recruit the committed workers they need but often cannot afford to recruit.”
Each day, between 8,000 and 10,000 U.S. individuals turn age 65. Most say they aren't ready to retire as their parents may have done at that milestone, either because of financial obligations, or because they want to take advantage of their longer life expectancy and stay more engaged.
Job searching and volunteering go hand in hand, so it makes sense to have them combined on the site. New research from the Corporation for National and Community Service shows volunteers have a 27 percent higher likelihood of finding a job after being out of work than non-volunteers.
The initiative was welcomed by Encore.org, which is building a movement to make it easier for people to pursue second acts for the greater good. Called ‘encore careers,' these roles combine personal meaning, continued income and social impact in the second half of life. “Older volunteers offer a lifetime of experience and knowledge and can have a real impact on pressing social problems,” said Marc Freedman, founder and CEO of Encore.org. “Our aging population is one of our only increasing natural resources. So it's crucial to find new pathways and pipelines to harness that talent.”
ReServe is another featured participant in the offering. ReServe, which operates in seven U.S. cities, is an innovative nonprofit that matches continuing professionals age 55+ (ReServists) with organizations that need their expertise. Nonprofits and public agencies tap into a lifetime of experience to fill crucial part-time staffing gaps at affordable rates. “ReServe offers professionals 55 plus a gateway to the nonprofit and public sector,” said Carol Greenfield, Director of ReServe Greater Boston – a program of JVS Boston, “where they can earn modest income, have flexibility in their work schedule, and fulfill their desire to give back to the community.”
Additional non-profit organizations posting openings in the new RetirementJobs.com categories include the Corporation for National and Community Service (RSVP Volunteer Program).
