American Portfolios Financial Services Sponsorship Support Benefits Face of America Ride
Holbrook, New York (PRWEB) March 18, 2014 -- American Portfolios Financial Services, Inc. (APFS), a leading financial services company and independent broker/dealer, announced today their continued sponsorship support of national non-profit World T.E.A.M. Sports’ annual Face of America bicycle and hand cycle ride honoring injured American and Canadian veterans this April 25-27.
Said APFS CEO Lon T. Dolber, “The Face of America Bike Ride is a popular and highly participated event among the staff, its affiliated advisers, business partners and friends of the firm; It has become an integral part of our corporate culture.”
With a goal of raising $75,000 for the ride, the APFS team took a big step toward that goal on March 12 with their $10,000 corporate sponsorship donation. Additional donations will be provided through innovative fundraising, which includes a comedy night at a Long Island club March 19.
“American Portfolios continually raises the bar with their support of World T.E.A.M. Sports and the Face of America. We are proud to have them as a partner,” said Van Brinson, the organization’s CEO and President.
With 150 injured veteran participants from all service branches, the Face of America ride will bring together more than 400 active duty military, retired military and civilian participants. This year’s ride includes riders of all ages from 35 states, Puerto Rico, District of Columbia, Canada, United Kingdom, and Denmark. Together, the team will ride 110 miles in two days from the Pentagon in suburban Washington to the historic battlefields of Gettysburg. First run as a cross-continental ride in 2000, the Face of America served as the official 9/11 commemorative bicycle ride in 2002 and 2003, from Ground Zero in New York to the Pentagon. In the last few years, the Face of America has grown to be one of the mid-Atlantic’s largest service-related bicycle and hand cycle rides.
Participants raise funds in support of the ride, with any additional funds applied to upcoming World T.E.A.M. Sports events. Next up for the organization is the inaugural CanAm Veterans’ Challenge, a 756-mile, two week ride in late June from Ottawa, Ontario to Washington, D.C. with 20 Canadian and American veterans with disabilities. In mid-September, the annual Adventure Team Challenge in Colorado’s high mountains will feature competing teams of disabled and able-bodied participants. World T.E.A.M. Sports also partners with American Portfolios in directing the Adventure Team Challenge at Harris, New York, a September event bringing together 20 disabled and able-bodied developmentally-disabled competitors.
The Face of America ride is supported through sponsorships from Capital One Bank, Booz Allen Hamilton, Benson Botsford LLC, BODYARMOR, FootStomp.com, Fidelity & Guaranty Life Insurance Company, General Electric, Penske Truck Rental, Revolution Cycles, Subway of the Bethesda Naval Hospital, Three Wire Systems LLC, and Vedder Price.

About World T.E.A.M. Sports
World T.E.A.M. Sports is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization chartered in North Carolina and headquartered in Holbrook, New York. Since 1993, World T.E.A.M. Sports has organized athletic events for disabled and able bodied citizens – mountain climbing, white water rafting, biking, and more. In all our events – whether mountain climbing, biking, white water rafting or many other sports – we include both disabled and able-bodied participants. Four things always happen at our events: 1) Disabled participants build self-confidence and physical fitness. 2) The disabled provide a role model for other disabled citizens, encouraging them to take up physical activities. 3) The disabled become a moving inspiration to other participants and to spectators when they see that disabled individuals can meet challenges beyond anyone’s imagination. 4) The disabled and able-bodied participants learn to work as a team to overcome those challenges. We change lives through sports.
