Musicians BETTY & Madam Cj to Perform at the Feminist Health Center's Annual Awards Celebration, "Stand Up for Reproductive Justice" on Saturday, April 12th
Atlanta, Georgia (PRWEB) March 18, 2014 -- On Saturday, April 12 at 7:00pm, the Feminist Health Center will hold its annual awards celebration, “Stand Up for Reproductive Justice” (SURJ). The event will feature musical performances by BETTY, Madam Cj, and the Love Supremes; a silent auction, complimentary wine bar, and food from The Glenwood in East Atlanta.
Unstoppable activists, the women of BETTY use their music for humanitarian outreach: working for equal rights, peace and aid, as well as the empowerment of girls and women. Named Arts Envoys in 2012, the trio works with the U.S. State Department internationally in Cultural Diplomacy. BETTY and their music have been featured on national and international radio, television, films, commercials, jingles, and web projects. They have appeared as guests on recordings, compilation albums, and in live theater, including the smash Off-Broadway hit BETTY Rules.
Madam Cj is a powerhouse vocalist, actress, dancer, model, and entrepreneur. She hails from Memphis and currently resides in Atlanta. She has collaborated with some of Atlanta’s most visible personalities, including Wanda Smith of V-103 and choreographer Travis Payne. She has performed with Janelle Monae, India Arie, and DJ Drama.
The Love Supremes perform regularly at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Atlanta. They create uplifting pop versions of songs from a wide variety of musical genres that focus on universal love and social justice.
The Feminist Health Center will honor community members Gail Cowie and Kinshasa Williams for their commitments to reproductive justice. Proceeds from the event will go toward the non-profit organization’s programming in legislative advocacy, community health education, and comprehensive gynecological care.
General admission is $35, and government-issued ID is required to enter. The event begins at 7 p.m. and will be held at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Atlanta (UUCA) on 1911 Cliff Valley Way in Atlanta.
