By seeking out the red flags in their data, companies can detect fraud much earlier and stop it before it results in significant losses
Ottawa, ON (PRWEB) March 19, 2014
i-Sight Software has announced that it will offer a free webinar entitled Finding Fraud through Data Analytics. The webinar will be presented by Maribeth Vander Weele, expert investigator and founder of the Vander Weele Group, on March 27th, 2014, from 2pm to 3pm EST.
Companies have been mining the data from their business processes for decades, but until a few years ago they were handicapped by the lack of historical data. Storing large amounts of data used to be too expensive so old data had to be purged. Since then, technology advances have enabled expanded storage and the new big data tools have made it possible to analyze more data less expensively and uncover valuable insights from it.
“Analysis of corporate data can uncover theft and reveal excessive spending by employees and vendors,” says Vander Weele. “My presentation will demonstrate how data - ranging from accounts payable to credit card expenditures - can be used to identify suspicious patterns suggesting fraud. I’ll show how a Fortune 500 company saved $5 to $7 million annually after two years of data analytics of its credit card expenditures and how spending data identified kickbacks involving the purchase of steel parts. I will also demonstrate common algorithms and aspects of the analysis process,” she says.
“Data analysis provides an effective way for businesses to be proactive in the fight against corporate fraud,” says Joe Gerard, Vice President Marketing and Sales at i-Sight. “By seeking out the red flags in their data, companies can detect fraud much earlier and stop it before it results in significant losses. But knowing where to look and how to apply analytics to detect fraud requires training. We’re happy to have Maribeth Vander Weele onboard to present a webinar on this important topic.”
Using case studies and practical examples, Vander Weele will show webinar attendees:
- How to analyze readily available data for suspicious transactions
- How to detect payroll fraud, kickback schemes, vendor fraud, embezzlement, accounting fraud, expense account fraud, and more
- Common challenges encountered in data analytics and how to overcome them
