Demand for IT Professionals Reaches Peak in February 2014
Atlanta, GA (PRWEB) March 19, 2014 -- According to CIO magazine, IT professionals are in high demand. There were an estimated 17,600 IT jobs added in just the last month. Throughout the IT employment industry short-term hiring (within 30 days) for middle management, and long-term hiring (within 12 months) of IT executives are expected to grow drastically. In general there are no such gains predicted for overall IT staff.
The recent Employment Situation Economic Release from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), which was published March 7, 2014, shows a slight increase in the number of jobs in the computer systems design and related services sector. The sector now employees 1,736,000 professionals compared to 1,721,000 in January 2014.
According to InfoWorld many of the IT jobs added in recent months are in "selected technical areas" such as security and BYOD support. The increasing number high-profile hacks and warnings about security issues are likely contributing to this need.
While February marked unprecedented growth for the IT industry, experts say things aren’t moving fast enough. David Foote, chief analyst at Foote Partners, notes that the February figures while higher than the 8,650 monthly IT hiring average over the last 12 month still came up 4,000 short of the monthly average for the first seven months of 2013. According to InfoWorld numerous CIOs expected staff layoffs within the next 6-12 months. Likewise The Congressional Budget Office’s short and long term forecasts for 2014 noted that the generally depressed level of employment participation, hiring, and earning will spread throughout all industries stalling economic growth around 2.1 percent annually.
