Monster Jam trucks stand over 12 feet tall and weigh over 10,000 pounds, with tires as big as a car. They race. They spin. They smash. They crash. They pop wheelies and leap over school buses in a single bound. And, of course, they fly though the air with the greatest of ease.
So it’s no wonder then, that ticket sales for these high-torque trucks have been defying gravity since the 2014 portion of this year’s tour opened January 2. Now, after a 94-city high-octane road trip, the World Finals are finally here. Events hit the gas on Thursday March 20 at Sam Boyd Stadium in Las Vegas and continue through Saturday March 22, 2014.
“Online traffic for Monster Jam tickets has been hitting very high RPMs at the top of nationwide sports ticket sales since the tour resumed earlier this year,” said Marta Ault at online ticket marketplace BuyAnySeat.com. “The event’s popularity grows each year as new trucks and competitors join the tour.
“That’s why, we’re proud to offer fans the most comprehensive and continuously refreshed selection of sports tickets online, with a worry-free guarantee to protect their purchase,” added Ault.
“To access the continuously updated selection of Monster Jam tickets we have available, fans can go to BuyAnySeat.com and search for Monster Jam – then select their tickets.”
After the finals, the tour resumes its tear around the country with 193 events scheduled in 71 cities starting on April 4. Initial stops for the tour coming off the finals include Louisville, Kentucky; Cincinnati, Ohio; Naples, Florida; Eugene, Oregon; Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Green Bay, Wisconsin and Hamilton, Ontario.
Monster Jam is a live motorsport event tour and TV series sponsored by Advance Auto Parts and operated by Feld Entertainment. The series is sanctioned under the United States Hot Rod Association (USHRA) and takes place primarily in the states.
Although individual event formats can vary greatly based on the “intermission” entertainment, the main attraction is always the monster trucks facing off in the racing and freestyle competitions. Side-by-side racing is done in the traditional format, where the first truck to cross the finish line moves onto the next round until it is eliminated or wins the Championship race.
The Freestyle competition gives drivers 90 seconds, plus a 30 second bonus period, on an open floor to show off their skills as they drive over cars. Drivers perform stunts and tricks that make these massive high-horsepower vehicles appear to dance gracefully across the track. The winner is determined by three judges who give the driver a rating out of a possible score of 10. These numbers are then added for a total tally.
There are two winners from both events. However, if the same person who won racing that night also won Freestyle, then they get the Double Down trophy, named after the Double Down activities in the Las Vegas Monster Jam World Finals.
In the smaller shows, there is a wheelie competition or a donut contest, and sometimes both. The goal in the wheelie competition is to hit a ramp and get big air while remaining perpendicular to the ground. In the donut competition, drivers try to spin their trucks until they get dizzy, the truck can't go any more, or they think they have a good enough score to win. (Source: wikipedia.org)
