CloudLinux Announces KernelCare.com Rebootless Kernel Update Service
Princeton, NJ (PRWEB) March 24, 2014 -- Leading shared hosting operating system (OS) developer CloudLinux (http://www.cloudlinux.com) announced today the release of KernelCare, a service that allows Linux kernel updates without a reboot.
“We’re excited to present KernelCare to the Linux community,” said Igor Seletskiy, founder and CEO of CloudLinux. “Rebootless kernel updates can save a significant amount of system administrator’s time, decrease downtime and improve server security.”
Today, system administrators have to reboot a server to apply the latest kernel updates. These updates are necessary to prevent security issues. Due to downtime associated with reboots, however, such updates are often delayed, pushed into the darkest hours of the night. It is common for server owners to not update their systems for months or even years and to run vulnerable systems to avoid downtime. Managed service providers face the problem of having to schedule downtime and then updating and rebooting thousands of servers in a short period of time, straining resources. KernelCare solves this update and reboot issue by providing live kernel patching without the need for the reboot.
KernelCare technology can generate binary patches for very complex kernel changes, including changes in modules and data structures. This capability allows it to patch virtually any kernel level vulnerability, ensuring that server owners no longer have to think about kernel updates.
KernelCare service is available for CloudLinux, CentOS and RedHat kernels. Other platforms will be added soon. The service will be available for free until May 2014.
