Gusher Days Festival Celebrates 35th Anniversary, May 2-3
Oil City, LA (PRWEB) April 17, 2014 -- Gusher Days Festival is celebrating its 35th year of honoring north Caddo Parish’s primary industry – oil, May 2-3 at Earl G. Williamson Park in Oil City. The event’s theme is “Everything Old is New Again.”
The discovery and production of oil was the catalyst for forming this city, and it was the first site of offshore oil wells in the United States. Considered the largest natural lake of fresh water in the South covering 26,800 acres, Caddo Lake is shared by Texas and Louisiana.
“This year’s festival is completely reinventing itself by expanding on the things locals and visitors love the most,” said Lisa Luccous, president of the local organizing committee. “The festival has formed a new partnership with the Oil City Rotary Club, moved locations, intensified the entertainment lineup and expanded the food vendors and children’s areas.”
The entertainment line-up for this year’s event starts on Friday, May 2 with a pet parade at 6 p.m., followed by a gospel music concert at 7 p.m.
The next day, Dixie Bent and Raymond Joe Welborn take to the stage at 2 p.m. performing classic country tunes followed by Tyler Vosbury at 3:30 p.m. The final performance will be by The Pack (Mark Tate, Joey Raborn, Keith Vosbury, Kim Tate and Steve Benton) beginning at 5 p.m. The group will perform mixed rock offering classic, southern and 80s tunes. Local school and dance troupes will also be performing throughout the day.
Missy and Miss Gusher will be named April 12 at the Oil City Pageant and will make their first appearances at the May 2-3 festival.
