NBC Olympics' Production of the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi Utilized FileCatalyst for Digital File Delivery Workflow
New York, NY (PRWEB) March 19, 2014 -- NBC Olympics, a division of the NBC Sports Group, selected Unlimi-Tech Software, the pioneer in accelerated file transfers and the creator of FileCatalyst, the world’s leading accelerated file transfer solution, as its file transfer technology for its production of the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi, Russia, from February 6-23. The announcement was made today by Jim Miles, Director, Digital Workflow Systems, Digital Workflow IV, NBC Olympics, and Chris Bailey, CEO & Co-Founder, FileCatalyst.
While covering events in multiple venues, NBC Olympics delivered video files digitally over a global 2Gbps link to its headquarters in Stamford, Connecticut, which enabled remote editing. Archived footage was also moved from Stamford back to Sochi as required for editorial purposes. Timely delivery of this content was critical to the production workflow.
In addition to the high-speed transfer of digital content across global and regional connections, FileCatalyst was able to ensure the reliability and security of all file transfers. It also enabled the execution of concurrent transfers of large, dynamic file sets, transferring up to 100 videos at once, while efficiently dealing with files that were still being encoded, particularly MXF files.
“We are very proud and excited to have been the technology behind the movement of digital content for the 2014 Winter Olympics,” says Chris Bailey. “A high profile event like the Olympics truly illustrated the power of FileCatalyst, and demonstrated its advantage in accelerating sports production workflows.”
“We are pleased to have worked with FileCatalyst and their fast file transfer platform,” said Jim Miles, “It allowed NBC Olympics to fully utilize its link speed for the transfer of the 2014 Winter Olympics digital content and helped us deliver more excitement to the viewers that watched the Games on the networks of NBCUniversal.”
FileCatalyst will also be presenting “Accelerating Olympic Winter Games Footage from Sochi, Russia to Stamford, CT” at the Broadcast Engineering Conference at the upcoming NAB show in Las Vegas, on April 8. Representatives from both FileCatalyst and NBC Sports Group will be on hand to present and answer questions.
