Futuristic Big Band Zubatto Syndicate Offers Cover Song Arrangements to Crowdfund Latest Album
Seattle, WA (PRWEB) March 21, 2014 -- Zubatto Syndicate, a 13-piece musical ensemble under the direction of composer and guitarist Andrew Boscardin, is offering to perform and record unique arrangements of cover songs chosen by the backers of its crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter. The band is raising funds to complete the follow-up to its 2011 self-titled debut.
“Even though I started Zubatto Syndicate to perform my own music, cover songs have always been a fun part of our performances.” Boscardin says, “The first cover we ever did was ‘Taxman’ by The Beatles, for a who we played on tax day, April 15, 2010.” The new record will feature Zubatto’s rendition of ‘Master of Puppets’ by Metallica – a crowd favorite at its shows – and a suite of songs by another popular act that will be revealed first to backers. Principal recording of the record has been complete, and the band is targeting a release in late Summer or Fall 2014. The finished record will once again feature artwork by celebrated science fiction artist Franco Brambilla.
Despite the technical complexity of arranging and rehearsing new music for a 13-piece ensemble, the cover song reward is offered at just $200. “At first, I thought it should be a very high level reward, and toyed with making it a stretch goal or adding it midway during the campaign, but I kept returning to this idea of how cool it would be to perform a bunch of different songs, and to do a set of everyone’s covers at the release party. So I ended up pricing it in the mid tier of rewards – probably lower than it should be – but hopefully low enough to encourage more people to respond.” The reward is limited to 15 backers.
"I don’t think you’ll find a deal like this anywhere else in the universe. What you as a backer get for the cover song reward is a once-in-a-lifetime experience" says Boscardin. "You get the song or piece of music of your choice performed by a group that is unlike any working today, and made up of some of the finest musicians in the world."
In addition to the cover song offering, rewards for the fundraising campaign range from a digital download of the recording, a copy of the finished LP on limited edition 180gram vinyl, a print of the final album artwork by artist Franco Brambilla, and a private release party with the band. The Kickstarter campaign ends on March 25.

About Zubatto Syndicate
Featuring a unique synthesis of reed instruments, brass and electric rhythm section, Zubatto Syndicate is a highly original take on the Big Band jazz tradition. Formed in 2009 to explore the musical place where Maria Schneider meets the Mahavishnu Orchestra, and the Roots meet Radiohead by way of Mingus, Zubatto combines detailed arrangements and inventive harmonic ideas with rhythmic settings and idioms atypical of the jazz orchestra, as realized by the some of the top improvising musicians in Seattle.
Along with Boscardin on guitar, the band features Janet Putnam on oboe and English horn, Beth Fleenor on clarinets, Tobi Stone on tenor saxophone, Francine Peterson on bassoon, Jacob Zimmerman on alto saxophone, Jim DeJoie on baritone sax, Chris Credit on bass clarinet, Jim Sisko on trumpet, David Marriott Jr. on trombone, Tim Kennedy on keys, Tim Carey on bass, and Eric Peters on drums.
