Durham, NC (PRWEB) March 19, 2014

DPAC, Durham Performing Arts Center, WTVD ABC11, PlayMakers Repertory Company and Theatre In The Park are thrilled to announce the 2014 Triangle Rising Star Awards. The Triangle Rising Star Awards is an education initiative to celebrate high school theater students who participate and excel with wide -ranging talents in their musical productions.

This year, the Triangle Rising Star Awards will select Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Production and Best Chorus Ensemble recipients through a multi-step adjudication process from participating high schools’ musicals in the 2013/2014 season. For consideration, Teachers must first submit an Intent to Participate Form, found at DPACnc.com/TRS, by April 14 or two weeks prior to their production.

Judges will attend the various high schools’ musical theater productions. The top submissions will be selected and invited back on May 31-June 1 to a closed audition and rehearsal process at PlayMakers Repertory Company. The following evening on June 2, there will be a ticketed event at DPAC where all finalists will perform in a showcase and awards will be announced. The top two Triangle students, recipients of the Best Actor and Best Actress awards, will receive an all-expense paid trip to New York to participate in master classes and private coaching from theatre professionals leading to an opportunity to compete in the National High School Musical Theater Awards at Broadway’s Minskoff Theatre June 30, 2014. Recipients will also receive a $1,000 educational scholarship and have the opportunity to be seen by casting agents, meet and converse with Broadway actors, and compete for additional scholarships and other prizes on a national stage.

“Theatre In The Park is proud to once again partner with Durham Performing Arts Center and be a part of the fourth annual Triangle Rising Star Awards. The Triangle is full of talent. Bravo DPAC for giving young actors and actresses an opportunity to showcase that talent,” said Brent Simpson, Program Marketing Director of Theatre In The Park.

The Triangle Rising Star Awards are held in conjunction with the National High School Musical Theater Awards, a national celebration of outstanding student achievement in high school musical theater. Established by Nederlander Alliances and Pittsburgh CLO, the program recognizes individual artistry in vocal, dance and acting performance, as well as honors teachers and their schools’ commitment to excellence in performing arts education.

“DPAC is delighted to be able to offer an amazing nationally recognized educational opportunity to Triangle students for a chance to experience part of our very own Nederlander-sponsored program in New York City, the Jimmy Awards™,” stated DPAC Senior Director of Marketing, Rachel Gragg.
