Attachmate Releases New Infographic: End of Life Support for Windows XP
Seattle, WA (PRWEB) March 20, 2014 -- Attachmate Corporation, http://www.attachmate.com, today released an infographic illustrating the top reasons why companies have not migrated from Windows XP yet and the financial and security implications for those who are still holding out. The infographic, “End of Life Support for Windows XP,” comes just days before Microsoft is expected to stop providing security patches and technical support for the 13-year-old operating system.
“Microsoft has been warning consumers and companies for years that the end of Windows XP is imminent and our hope is that this infographic will help amplify the warnings to those who have yet to update their Windows operating system,” said Kris Lall, senior product manager for Attachmate. “Whether our enterprise customers choose to migrate to Windows 7 or upgrade to Windows 8, Attachmate’s products will help them achieve a seamless migration, ensuring continued access to their critical host systems.”
Key findings culled from industry reports and summarized in the infographic include:
• Migrating from Windows XP could cost some utility operators more than $100 million and several years of work to upgrade.
• Of the 210,500 bank ATMs in the United States, 95 percent run on Windows XP. That leaves roughly 200,000 ATMs vulnerable to cyberattacks.
• IT departments cited not being able to afford an upgrade as one of the top five reasons for holding on to Windows XP.
