As reported in the article, ‘CCTV appeal after charity box ripped off hospital wall,’ published in Get Surrey on March 14th 2014, following the alleged theft of a charity box at St. Peter’s Hospital in Chertsey, police have released CCTV images related to the incident. As reported by the article, regarding the investigation PC Andrew Waldron said: "Not only is the theft of a charity collection box a callous crime in itself but it was forcibly removed from the wall of the chapel causing significant damage and will be costly to repair. The theft has caused a considerable amount of distress and inconvenience and we are determined to find those responsible and bring them to justice."

Business security specialists, AlertSystems, have commented on this alleged incident, pointing to the important role CCTV cameras have had in the investigation so far. A spokesperson for the company said:

“As this story demonstrates, a CCTV security system in the right setting can be instrumental in identifying, catching and ultimately punishing those responsible for crimes such as this, and the alleged theft and damage caused by the perpetrator at St. Peter’s Hospital can be resolved with the use of the images taken from CCTV camera footage. In many cases, these commercial security systems can deter people from committing crimes in the first place, and this reduces crime rates and increases safety for business owners, employees and the wider public.”
