South Shore Residents Can Beat ACA Sign-Up Deadline at Sunday Event
Chicago,IL (PRWEB) March 27, 2014 -- For the more than 30,000 uninsured residents of South Shore and surrounding neighborhoods*, Monday is the last day to sign up for health coverage under the Affordable Care Act (ACA). Those who need advice or assistance in obtaining health insurance through the ACA will find it at the Zakat Foundation of America Community Center - Chicago (ZFCCC) Affordable Care Act Information and Enrollment Event on Sunday, March 30, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Health care navigators will be on hand to answer questions and help with the online enrollment process.
“We know that 16,000 people in this neighborhood are eligible for Medicaid, and 10,000 can get tax credits towards private insurance,” said Laila Muhammad, ZFCCC Director. “But many of those who need insurance do not know where to go or who to ask for help to sign up.”
The two-year-old ZFCCC regularly offers community health programs such as blood pressure and diabetes screenings, quarterly health fairs that focus on preventative physical and mental health, a food pantry, a community garden and participation in the Summer Seamless Food Program.
Zakat Foundation of America (ZF) (zakat.org) is a Bridgeview-based Muslim 501(c)(3) charity that delivers emergency aid and promotes sustainable development in the U.S. and around the world.
