Scars are the reminder of a bad day. The Palomar Icon Laser can help make that better.

Recently an article entitled “Chrissy’s Journey,” was featured in Dr. Fink’s newsletter, telling the story of a young woman who had both surgery and chemotherapy for colorectal cancer. She wanted to look healthy and radiant, and leave her cancer scars behind. Chrissy sought help from Dr. Fink, who performed the medical services for free.

Dr. Fink was touched by her story. “There was no hesitation with what came next,” he said in the article. “I offered Chrissy a full restorative package. In-office skin-care treatments, including lasers and peels, topical take home treatments; fillers to restore volume and laser scar reduction for her scars – on the house.”

Fellow of the American Society of Lasers in medicine and Surgery, Dr. Fink has been giving patients new hope in the treatment of scars for many years. Using a combination of different wavelengths with the Palomar Icon Laser system, he has been re-defining the scars on various parts of the body and the face. While it is best to treat a scar early, he has seen good results in scars that were more than 30 years old.

According to Dr. Fink, each and every scar is different. There is no, ‘one-size-fits-all’ approach to treatment. The number of treatments may vary and the response may not always be predictable. Dr. Fink stated that the Palomar Icon Laser is a powerful laser platform for numerous different conditions, but just like any tool, there must be a strong understanding of the mechanics involved for it to be successful.

Dr. Fink feels there is a greater calling in scar treatment. “A person shouldn’t have to wake up every day looking at a reminder of something bad that happened at one particular moment in their life,” he said.

An Attending Physician at Northern Westchester Hospital in Mt. Kisco, Dr. Fink believes that his approach to laser scar reduction may help women who have undergone breast cancer surgery and reconstruction, which is a strong focus of the hospital.

“Most scars are treatable,” he said. “They may not disappear, but they can be diminished. This includes acne scars, traumatic and burn scars, and weight-loss surgery and most post-surgical scars."
