POPAI Announces 2014 OMA Award Winners

POPAI, the leading non-profit association for in-store marketing, announces the winners of their annual OMA Awards competition.

It’s a show that provides us, as marketing professionals, new benchmarks and innovations to reach as we continue to battle numerous obstacles in the retail environment to win shoppers attention.

Point of Purchase Advertising International (POPAI) announced the winners of its 56th Annual Outstanding Merchandising Achievement (OMA) Awards Competition during their OMA Celebration on March 19th. More than 460 entrants from 75 different companies entered themselves in 27 industry categories during this year’s competition at GlobalShop in Las Vegas, NV.

"This award show is so much more than just honoring the hard work and creative achievements of those in the industry," says Rich Carrigan, POPAI Chairman and President of United Displaycraft. "It’s a show that provides us, as marketing professionals, new benchmarks and innovations to reach as we continue to battle numerous obstacles in the retail environment to win shoppers attention."

Entries are judged in a two-round process by teams of in-store marketing professionals representing brands, retailers, ad agencies, and producers/suppliers. Each round focuses on design, innovation, interactivity, and the proven ability to lift sales. The first round is completed online by reviewing case history responses and evaluating entry responses to questions focusing on design, engineering, shopper engagement, retail experience, brand performance, and sales results. The second round is completed on the OMA Show floor during GlobalShop to validate their online scores. Judges are divided into teams with representation from all areas of the industry including brands, retailers, ad agencies, and producers/suppliers. These teams collectively evaluate the entries in each category, validating their online scores.

The most prestigious award presented during POPAI’s OMA Awards Competition is awarded across three divisions – temporary, semi-permanent, and permanent-- based upon length of time in the store. Only gold OMA winners qualify for this award.

Temporary: Eastwest Marketing Group and Packaging Corp. of America for Nabisco Make the Holidays Magical POS for Mondelez International

Semi-Permanent: STRAZA Designers for Colgate Luminous White EOA Display for Colgate Palmolive Colombia

Permanent: Design Phase, Inc. for Disney Infinity Display Program for The Walt Disney Company

Recognizes entries that had the greatest impact, while being very conscious of budget. To be eligible for the Budget Award, entries achieved Gold, Silver or Bronze awards. In the Temporary Division the entry must cost under $25, for Semi-Permanent under $50 and for Permanent under $100.

The Creative Award celebrates the creativity of merchandising design. It acknowledges the excellence of ideation, imagination, and forward thinking. This award is presented across three divisions based upon length of time in stores.

Semi-Permanent: STRAZA Designers for Johnnie Walker Double Tasting Station for Diageo Colombia

Permanent: Bish Creative Display for Kraken Tentacle Rack for Proximo

The Choice Award is new this year and was determined by all GlobalShop attendees. They voted for their favorite display on the show floor via smartphones.
