Considering a Career Move? Real Estate Express Says the Timing Might Be Right to Become a Real Estate Agent
St. Louis, MO (PRWEB) March 24, 2014 -- Although economists continue to debate the state of the housing market recovery, there may be a growing opinion among the general public that things are looking up. RealEstateExpress.com, the leading online provider of real estate license training, has seen an increase in people working towards obtaining their real estate license in early 2014.
Tom Davidson, Vice President of RealEstateExpress.com, explains it as this: “People don’t want to miss the recovery and the career potential that accompanies it. If you wait until the economic data says we are officially back on track, then you have missed out on potentially a large piece of the recovery. People are joining the profession to be positioned to participate in all of the upside.”
Not surprisingly, the recession drove many realtors out of the profession. According to the National Association of Realtors, the number of realtors in the industry dropped 11% from 1,112,645 to 999,824 between 2009 and 2012. Some states, such as Minnesota and North Carolina, saw even more dramatic declines of 16% and 17% respectively. Although the lack of demand drove this exodus, as the market recovers demand increases meaning more business for fewer agents. In 2012, Realtor.org reported that the typical agent had 12 transactions up from 10 in 2011. Agent income followed suit with the median gross income of realtors rising to $43,500 in 2012 up from $34,900 in 2011. These trends are advantageous to those looking to join the industry and particularly advantageous to those who get in the market early.
On RealEstateExpress.com, aspiring agents in many states can often get their pre-licensing courses for a few hundred dollars or less. Although agents have to often pay additional fees to sit for the licensing exam in their state, this is perceived as a low financial hurdle relative to the potential upside of participating in the recovery, regardless of when the recovery is official.
