It is STEM Safari Time! Exhibiting Robotics and STEM at MetroFamily's Kids Fest
Oklahoma City, OK (PRWEB) March 26, 2014 -- The first weekend in April is a busy time in the OKC Metro area. One event conscientious family’s need to single out for their schedule is STEM Safari at Metro Family’s 2014 Kids Fest. At the Oklahoma STEM Foundation, volunteers maintain that attention on a global scale is needed for programs involving the subjects of (S)cience(T)echnology(E)ngineering(M)ath. As a nation we need techniques that can be shared, adapted or adopted by anyone.
Kids won’t even realize they are learning fundamental STEM educational principles as they tinker with the hands on exhibits in this 6,000 sq ft area inside Kids Fest. With the proverbial spoonful of sugar, the inspiration of our future leaders in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math will go down.
Previous Kids Fest attendance has averaged over 6,000 adults and kids, representing about 2,000 different families. The mood is jolly and light and families are anxious to connect with the participating exhibitors. Booths featuring many family resources will be at the convention center in Bricktown for the afternoon. The Festival will be held at the COX convention center from 11:30 am - 4:30 pm. Admission is 5$ for Adults, and kids 18 and under enter for free. Also featured are various stage entertainers and many hands-on activities utilizing art, creativity and learning.
Some of the exhibitions of STEM career fields include the Oklahoma Engineering Foundation and the University of Oklahoma’s Air Force ROTC. The FIRST Robotics team from Mount Saint Mary School will be showcasing their robot right alongside the Sheriff’s Department Bomb Squad robot. Many hands on exhibits featuring Game Design and Electronics will be featured at the techJOYnT Academy Booth, and a 3-D Printer will be on display across from the Laser Tag Booth
Oklahoma STEM education stands as a barren landscape for hiring qualified workers in years to come. Not enough students are majoring in science, technology, engineering or math. The Oklahoma STEM Foundation believes in capturing learning wherever, however it occurs. Promote this awareness as a community by recognizing and sustaining the support of the creative ideas, initiatives, and innovations that are exhibited at STEM Safari.
