Prior to joining the Backstreet Boys for this tour, the 29-year-old native of Belleville, Ontario, Canada, will be playing a 10-date tour of South America and Mexico. Lavigne started out in the music business in 1999 and in 2002, released her first album, Let Go, which was one of the best selling albums of the year. The album reached the No. 1 spot in countries around the world and peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 album charts. It has sold more than six million copies in the United States and more than 18 million copies worldwide. Her 2004 follow up, Under My Skin, has sold more than 10 million copies around the world and reached the No. 1 spot on the album charts in the U.S.
When Lavigne broke out, she did so in a time where the female presence in music was mostly in the pop genre with artists like Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera. Her different style helped her stand out and win over millions of fans. With songs like “Complicated,” “Sk8er Boi,” “I’m With You,” “My Happy Ending,” “Keep Holding On,” “Girlfriend,” “When You’re Gone,” and “What the Hell,” Lavigne became the poster child for all the ladies that weren’t going to take anything from anyone ever again.
Joining the Backstreet Boys on this tour was an easy decision for Lavigne to make, she said, and the boy band will be looking to win back some of their fans from the 1990s and 2000s. Made up of Nick Carter, Brian Littrell, Kevin Richardson, A. J. McLean and Howie Dorough, the group released their first album internationally in 1996 with Backstreet Boys and would release their first album in the U.S. the following year with Backstreet Boys. This album was released at the same time as their sophomore international album Backstreet’s Back, and was aided in sales by the singles “Quit Playing Games With My Heart,” “As Long As You Love Me,” “Everybody (Backstreet’s Back)” and “All I Have to Give.”
Their biggest album to date has been the 1999 release, Millennium. The album was certified diamond in the U.S. with more than 13 million sales, making it their second straight album to be certified diamond in the States.
When Lavigne and Backstreet Boys take to the road for this tour, they will visit many popular venues including The Axis at Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas, NV; Starlight Theatre in Kansas City, MO; Sleep Train Amphitheatre in Sacramento, CA and Susquehanna Bank Center in Philadelphia, PA.
