As reported in the article, ‘CCTV images released of shoplifting suspect,’ published in Lutterworth Mail on March 18th, police have released CCTV images of the alleged shoplifter who stole items from Co-Op stores in Fleckney and Wigston between Sunday 3rd March and Monday 10th March. Leicestershire Police was alerted on three occasions, in which items such as meat, coffee, toiletries and chocolates were allegedly taken. Images taken from CCTV footage show the alleged shoplifter entering the stores.

Detective Constable 2063 Mat Wiggins, the investigating officer on the case, said regarding the appeal: “We would urge anyone who recognises the woman in the images or has any suspicions about who she may be to contact us. We would also like to speak to anyone who witnessed any of the incidents or has any information about the thefts.”

Business security specialists, AlertSystems, have responded to this appeal for information about the subject of the images, highlighting the use of the stores’ CCTV security system to identify the alleged shoplifter. A spokesperson for the company said:

“CCTV security cameras are an invaluable tool for identifying and catching those responsible for crime and other incidents of antisocial behaviour, and this call for information is a great example of the technology being used for just that. These alleged thefts have been caught because of the presence of security systems in both Co-Op stores and because of the images captured police will most likely be able to identify the alleged shoplifter. This demonstrates the power of CCTV and other business security systems, such as those sold by AlertSystems, in helping police to resolve issues and reduce overall crime rates.”
