(PRWEB UK) 25 March 2014

As reported in the article, ‘CCTV move will improve area safety,’ published in Spalding Today on March 19th, 2014, a 28 camera CCTV security system operating across Spalding, Crowland, Holbeach, Long Sutton and Sutton Bridge has been run by volunteers since 2007 from Spalding Police station, but is now set to be run by Boston Borough Council’s control room. It is expected that the move will cost a maximum of £104,000 from both a grant of £56,000 from Police and Crime Commissioner grant and £18,000 from Lincolnshire County Council. Monitoring the cameras may cost £32,000 per year.

Jim Tyner, Spalding community inspector, said: “This means we can tackle many of the issues that matter most to people such as street drinking, shoplifting and night-time alcohol-related violence.”

Councillor Nick Worth, South Holland District Council’s portfolio holder for community, added: “Boston’s state-of-the-art control room has new IT systems and cameras which produce better quality images as well as being able to tilt and zoom. It also means 24-hour monitoring by fully trained staff. We are happy to be working with Boston Borough Council to provide a fully monitored CCTV service for South Holland.”

Business security specialists, AlertSystems, have commented on these plans, commending the plan’s focus on improved quality and service for CCTV cameras in the area. A spokesperson for the company said:

“This move to Boston Borough Council’s control room for the area’s CCTV security system is an encouraging step towards improving the quality of service that they offer, including superior safety for residents, business owners and visitors across the region.
