Dr Tariq Drabu, the leading dentist, is the owner of the Langley Dental Practice in Middleton, Manchester. In addition, he is the respected Clinical Lead Dentist for the Oral Surgery Clinical Assessment and treatment Services for NHS Heywood Middleton and Rochdale. For over twenty-five years he has managed a successful dental practice, while being an acclaimed teacher to post graduate dental students.
Dr Tariq Drabu was speaking recently in reference to an article published by the Denistry website. The article discusses a recent survey which looks at the ease of getting a dental appointment. The full article can be read here.
Dr Tariq Drabu said, “I am very pleased to see that a survey of this nature was undertaken. As the owner of Langley Dental Practice, I am aware that there is a commonly held belief that dental appointments are difficult to come by and not easy to get. This is not the case for the majority of practices, and I am glad that the survey has highlighted this point. While it is not always easy to see a GP, booking an appointment with a dentist does not always have to involve a long wait. The survey also collated some interesting statistics which will be of use to many dentists and practice managers.”
Dr Tariq Drabu continued, sharing some of the survey results, he said, “The poll was of 450,000 people. Results indicated that only 5% of people who had sought dental treatment in the last two years were unable to get an appointment. This is an excellent result and clearly shows how hard the dental profession is working to ensure everyone can see the dentist when they want to. For GP practices, the same question resulted in a 10% result, clearly showing that it is much harder to access a GP. The article also mentions particular areas like Bradford where one in five patients are recorded as being unable to speak to someone at their GP practice.”
Dr Tariq Drabu closed by saying, “I urge my colleagues to read this article and access the survey results. They are extremely interesting. The results are broken down by area so that each region in England is given its own set or results. This is very helpful to dentists who own practices within these areas. I think these surveys are an important part of our work. We must be able to understand things from our patients’ perspective in order to provide the right level of service, and ensure patients are able to access the dental treatment they need. The survey revealed that 13% of respondents, who did not try to get an appointment, believed they would not be able to get one. This is a serious issue that we must all try to address. The treatment is there available for people, and we need to help them access it and show them how easy it is to make an appointment and visit their dentists.”
