Satcom Direct Earns Approved Model List-STC From the FAA for Installation of Its Satcom Direct Router (SDR) in Gulfstream II, IIB, III, IV and IVSP Aircraft
Satellite Beach, FL (PRWEB) March 26, 2014 -- The SDR is Satcom Direct's first certified hardware product, and it is now approved for use on Gulfstream II, IIB, III, IV and IVSP aircraft types per Approved Model List (AML)-Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) ST03958AT, including wireless connectivity via WiFi. It also has been approved for use on Hawker series, Lear 60, Global 5000 and Global XRS aircraft.
The SDR is a smart router that can manage all of an aircraft's voice and data solutions. It allows simultaneous use of Inmarsat Swift 64, SwiftBroadband, Ku-Band and Ka-Band satellite connections with intelligent traffic control.
“This certification immediately expands the aircraft types on which the SDR can be installed,” said Jim Jensen, CEO and founder of Satcom Direct. “The SDR is currently undergoing certification efforts on several additional airframes and we expect those to be completed in the coming months, establishing the foundation for expanding Satcom Direct services.”
“Banyan Air Service is a proud partner and dealer for Satcom Direct and this STC will have mutual benefits for both companies,” stated Brian Wilson, director of avionics at Banyan. “We think this STC will be very attractive to both our mutual customers and dealers.”
The SDR allows multiple systems to operate on the aircraft without additional wireless access points, creating the ability for separate guest or dedicated VVIP networks. It maximizes the passenger experience and provides higher bandwidth to the cabin through advanced compression and acceleration technology. The SDR also incorporates Satcom Direct’s Global One IP™ providing business jets a single IP address regardless of the connection type in use or where the aircraft travels.
While on the ground, 3G connectivity is possible through the SDR, and data plans for domestic and global roaming with the SDR’s Dual-SIM module are available to provide the best roaming rates around the world. The SDR also supports mobile applications for on-board cabin services such as moving map, command and control of satellite links, and real-time connection status reporting.
The SDR currently works with Inmarsat SwiftBroadband and Swift 64 systems from Cobham/Thrane & Thrane, Honeywell/EMS and Rockwell Collins. It also supports ViaSat Yonder® Ku-Band and is designed to work with Inmarsat’s upcoming Global Xpress Ka-Band Service.
