San Francisco, California (PRWEB) March 24, 2014 -- Metaswitch Networks announced today that its CTO, Martin Taylor, has written a guide that clearly defines NFV and SDN, highlights their benefits, notes the remaining challenges and provides a guide for how these technologies can be implemented.
After covering the basics, Taylor expresses Metaswitch’s vision for what impact NFV and SDN will have in five years’ time. For example, Taylor writes that in five years, almost all new services will be created by deploying new software elements or by combining existing software in new ways. Also by that time, he envisions that service delivery lead times will be reduced by orders of magnitude thanks to the automation of service deployment.
“The advent of NFV and SDN represents perhaps the single most important technology event in the telecom industry since the arrival of digital switching,” Taylor writes. “Network operators who choose fully to embrace NFV and SDN have the opportunity to radically transform their businesses both to reduce their cost base, and to become far more agile in their ability to introduce new services. In short, to become ‘software telcos.’”
