One of the biggest names in the history of rap music is hitting the road with one of the top female R&B performers in the business today. Eminem and Rihanna will be hitting the road this summer on the Monster Tour. The tour was originally announced in February to take the two mega-acts to just three cities, Detroit, Michigan; Los Angeles, California; and East Rutherford, New Jersey. Last week, the pair announced additional dates at each site of the tour including two shows at MetLife Stadium on August 16th and 17th.
Eminem has been one of the biggest performers in rap since breaking out in 1999. The Slim Shady LP was that album that became an immediate hit with the fans. The album sold more than five million copies in the United States and peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 charts. The following year, he released The Marshall Mathers LP, which became a larger hit, selling more than 19 million copies around the world and more than 10 million in the States alone, being diamond by the Recording Industry Association of America. The 2002 release The Eminem Show has also sold more than 19 million copies around the world also achieved diamond status in 2011. Since release of the latter, Eminem has come out with four more albums, all of which have been certified platinum multiple times in the U.S.
Rihanna first became a household name in the music business with her 2005 release, Music of the Sun. The album has sold more than 500,000 copies in the U.S. since its release, but it was her 2006 release A Girl Like Me that her career began to take off. Her best-selling album to date is her 2007 release, Good Girl Gone Bad. The album has sold close to three million copies in the U.S. since its release and more than seven million around the world.
Since Rihanna got her big break in the music business, she has released 13 songs that have reached the No. 1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 singles charts. Among these songs that her fans at MetLife Stadium will want to hear her perform include “SOS,” “Umbrella,” featuring Jay Z, “Take a Bow,” “Disturbia,” “Rude Boy,” “What’s My Name?,” featuring Drake, “Only Girl (In the World), “S&M,” “We Found Love,” featuring Calvin Harris and “Diamonds.” Among the songs fans of Eminem will want to hear the rap god perform include songs off his new album, “Rap God,” “Berzerk,” “Survival,” “The Monster,” featuring Rihanna, and his latest single featuring Nate Ruess from fun., “Headlights.”
MetLife Stadium is the home of the New York Giants and New York Jets of the National Football League. The venue opened in 2010 and is located at the Meadowlands Sports Complex. Despite having only been opened for a few years, the venue has already been home to numerous major events including WrestleMania 29 and Super Bowl XLVIII. When these dates come and go, the Monster Tour will be another major event to add to the resume of MetLife Stadium.
