ProStar announced today that it has joined the Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC®), the international consortium that serves as a forum for collaboration on the development of geospatial interoperability standards. By collaborating with OGC, ProStar will contribute to open geospatial standards and improve the accuracy, content and effectiveness of asset location data for the utility and pipeline industries. ProStar leverages OGC standards to streamline the sharing of data and improve delivery, visualization and quality of data allowing for more informed decisions to be made in the field where the worker, the public and the environment are at risk.

“As an official member of OGC, we are excited about further contributing to the consortium of companies to help the industry realize a truly open and interoperable world”, stated Dan Colby, Vice President of Geospatial Technology Services at ProStar. Mr. Colby adds, “Our geospatial mapping solutions including Transparent Earth® and PointMan will continue to evolve with OGC, providing integrated geospatial solutions with all major GIS and CAD platforms including ESRI, GE Smallworld, Autodesk and Bentley, as well as web mapping services provided by companies such as Google, Bing and Open Layers.

ProStar will be working closely with OGC and its members to begin discussions about the development of a data interchange standard tentatively known as PipelineML/PipeML. "This open extensible standard is intended to enable the interchange of pipeline data between parties, disparate systems and software applications without the loss of accuracy, density or data resolution and without the need for conversion between intermediate or proprietary formats,” stated Trevor Taylor, Director of Services for Asia and the Americas for OGC. “This standard is expected to leverage existing OGC standards, such as GML and OGC Web Services, facilitating the interchange of pipeline data related to activities such as pipeline design, pipeline construction, ECall Line Locate, pipeline rehabilitation and mobile field data collection".

About OGC
The Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) is an international industry consortium of 473 companies, government agencies and universities participating in a consensus process to develop publicly available interface standards. OGC Standards support interoperable solutions that "geo-enable" the Web, wireless and location-based services and mainstream IT. The standards empower technology developers to make complex spatial information and services accessible and useful with all kinds of applications.
