NextEnergy Announces the I-Corps Energy and Transportation Training Program
Detroit, MI (PRWEB) March 26, 2014 -- NextEnergy will work in partnership with Michigan I-Corps, a program of the University of Michigan College of Engineering Center for Entrepreneurship, to conduct the I-Corps Energy and Transportation training program at NextEnergy beginning May 20, 2014.
I-Corps, or Innovation Corps, is a National Science Foundation-funded commercialization training program that allows researchers and engineers to move their ideas out of the lab and into the market. I-Corps Energy and Transportation focuses specifically on university, national lab, and federally-funded research and development in energy and transportation. Researchers in these capital-intensive technology spaces need guidance, and NextEnergy and the University of Michigan will bring together industry leaders, investors, and start-up veterans from these sectors to help research teams build an effective business model and expand their networks.
“Some of Michigan’s best technology companies were founded with university and national lab research,” said NextEnergy President and CEO, Jean Redfield. “This program will help NextEnergy super-charge the pipeline of new companies created, follow-on funding from federal grants and investment, and new products spun-out or licensed from Michigan universities – we are thrilled to be leading the effort.”
The I-Corps program kick-off will take place at NextEnergy beginning May 20, and will come to a close on June 12. The program is comprised of workshops, market-specific trainings and mentorship with industry leaders, investors, entrepreneurs, government and economic development professionals. Program partners include: University of Michigan College of Engineering Center for Entrepreneurship, Michigan Economic Development Corporation, Growth Capital Network, the National Science Foundation, Clean Energy Trust, and Huron River Ventures.
NextEnergy is seeking participant teams focused on energy and transportation from university, national labs, and federally-funded research including, but not limited to, Michigan, Illinois, Ohio, Wisconsin and Indiana. The participant application deadline is April 18, 2014. NextEnergy is also seeking mentors and teaching team members. Mentors and teaching team members’ time commitment will vary based on the individual’s availability and interest in the program.
