Narconon New Life Retreat Supports Local Drug Free Project Graduation Event
Denham Spring, LA (PRWEB) March 25, 2014 -- Project Graduation is a nationwide event sponsored by local communities and is designed to provide a safe, alcohol and drug free environment with activities for the upcoming graduation class. The project was brought about in response to growing concerns that many graduates were taking to the roads on graduation night while under the influence of drugs and alcohol. By providing an environment which is fun and engaging, the organizers hope to prevent tragedy on what should be a night of celebration.
This year's local celebration for the graduating seniors of Denham Springs High School takes place at the North Park Recreation Center Friday, mid May following the DSHS graduation ceremony Narconon New Life Retreat has supported the project in an effort to curb the growing drunk driving rates across the country by providing drug education DVDs as part of the gift bag that each student receives at the event. The hope is that by educating graduates on the harmful effects of drugs and alcohol, they will then go on to practice more responsibility when getting behind the wheel.
The U.S. Department of Transportation reports that car accidents are the leading cause of deaths for teenagers and one out of every three are related to alcohol use. "In our drug rehabilitation center, we see firsthand the effects of long term drug and alcohol abuse," said Kelley Keeney, Facility Administrator of Narconon New Life Retreat. "While we are addressing addiction through our rehabilitation program, we realize that part of the answer is to be pro-active in stopping addiction before it starts. We support programs such as Project Graduation in order to help achieve our overall goal of providing solutions to the growing drug and alcohol problems in our community and the world."
The drug education DVD's provided are entitled "The Truth About Drugs" and document the effects of drug and alcohol use by a group of former drug addicts who come from many different points of view. Over the last 48 years, Drug Education has been a core part of the Narconon Program. The Narconon Drug Education Program was one of the first of its kind. Very early on the founder of the Narconon Program delivered drug education lectures to High School classes, which provided accurate and understandable information about the effects of drug and alcohol use. During the 1960's, when these lectures were being given, drug education programs such as D.A.R.E had not even been considered.
Continuing in its long tradition of delivering drug and alcohol education programs, Narconon delivers its evidence based drug education program to thousands of children throughout the world. In forty years of experience delivering drug rehab and prevention, it has been shown that young people who gain knowledge and understanding in this area more often make the decision to stay away from drug use.
Narconon Louisiana applauds the organizers of Denham Springs High School Project Graduation for their commitment to provide an incredible celebration for the graduates of 2014. Such commitment shows a community that truly cares about its youth and their sobriety.
