Mostyn Moreno Foundation Remembers Exciting 2014 Rodeo Season
Houston, Texas (PRWEB) March 25, 2014 -- The Glenda Jean Mostyn and Joe E. Moreno Educational Foundation (Mostyn Moreno Foundation) is celebrating the end of the 2014 Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo (HLSR) by remembering its active participation in the month long event.
The Houston rodeo begins at the end of February and runs until the end of March. This year included a number of activities supported by the Mostyn Moreno Foundation, such as Ritch’s Little Raiders and the Foundation Appreciation Party. This year’s event ended on March 23rd.
“We had an absolute blast at this year’s rodeo,” said Monte Osburn, executive director of the Mostyn Moreno Foundation. “It was really nice to have so much community participation at our events. Sharing great food with great people is a big part of the rodeo and this year kept that tradition going strong.”
This isn’t Osburn’s first rodeo either. He is a lifetime volunteer member of the HLSR and serves on the Special Children’s committee that interview social service agencies and schools so that physically/developmentally challenged children and adults can attend the rodeo. He also serves on the transportation committee charged with moving all guests throughout the rodeo grounds using many forms of transport.
Among the highlights of the Mostyn Moreno Foundation’s rodeo season was hosting more than 750 Texas children with disabilities for a day of food and fun with local celebrities, such as Smash the Police Horse and Houston Astros mascot Orbit. The Houston-based nonprofit also held their annual Foundation Appreciation Party that brought together local supporters for award-winning barbeque from Ritch’s Raiders and entertainment by Texas Country Music Hall of Fame member Johnny Rodriguez.
“We’re extremely grateful to everyone that came by to show their support,” said Amber Mostyn, co-founder of the Mostyn Moreno Foundation. “Raising awareness and getting children with disabilities involved in the rodeo is a lot of fun. We hope to keep doing it for many years.”
The Mostyn Moreno Foundation helps Texas children with special needs by supporting programs that stress growth and individual development. Along with rodeo activities, the Foundation also supports “Spa Days” that prepare girls with disabilities for the first day of school or prom. If needed, the Mostyn Moreno Foundation can also offer more substantial support to families of those with special needs.
