Weil Eye Care Celebrates Workplace Eye Wellness Month
San Carlos, CA (PRWEB) March 25, 2014 -- March is Workplace Eye Wellness Month and throughout the month, Weil Eye Care is stressing the importance of wearing proper eye protection on the job.
According to the American Academy of Ophthalmology, 300,000 Americans visit the emergency room each year to treat a workplace eye injury (Link: http://www.aao.org/newsroom/release/industrial-workplace-eye-injuries.cfm). Dr. Leslie Weil, MD wants to remind workers to follow tips from the American Academy of Ophthalmology to avoid eye injuries at work.
The most important tip to keep in mind to prevent injuries is to wear American National Standards Institute-approved protective eyewear for jobs where there is a greater chance for an eye injury. This is necessary for jobs where employees work with chemicals, intense light and heat, or there is the potential for dust or flying or falling debris.
Workers that do suffer some kind of an eye injury should not try to remove an object in the eye or try to wash or rub it out. They should instead put some kind of protective shield over the eye and seek immediate medical attention. Water or eye flush can be used by workers to treat an eye in the case of a chemical burn or sand or other small debris in the eye.
