Oldsmar, Florida (PRWEB) March 27, 2014
A local police agency caught almost 200 traffic and criminal offenders this past weekend using industry-leading License Plate Recognition (LPR) technology by Florida-based PlateSmart. The agency, whose identity remains undisclosed for security reasons, had a PlateSmart-equipped vehicle active at the 2014 Tampa Bay AirFest, a popular annual air show held at Tampa’s MacDill Air Force Base.
The 2014 AirFest took place during the weekend of March 22nd-23rd. Over the course of this two-day period, PlateSmart LPR scanned 11,182 vehicles and returned 199 alerts, more commonly known as “hits.” The hits included 198 violations for suspended driver’s licenses and expired registrations and one misdemeanor warrant. This was one of many deployments of PlateSmart LPR for security at a public event. The first such deployment was as part of the security detail at the 2012 Republican National Convention.
John Chigos, PlateSmart founder and CEO, said, “Our presence at Tampa Bay AirFest this year was an awesome demonstration of the power of License Plate Recognition as a security tool. By having PlateSmart in operation at the show, attendees were kept that much safer. I don’t think it will be too long before all security and police agencies begin employing LPR…and I firmly believe PlateSmart’s robust, cost-effective technology will be their first choice.”
