Yellow Rose Distilling Receives Gold Medal for Mixology and Best Cocktail at Houston’s First Whiskey Festival

(http://www.yellowrosedistilling.com) an emerging micro-distillery and Houston’s only legal whiskey distillery, received a Gold Medal for Mixology and Best Cocktail at Houston’s First Whiskey Festival this past weekend. The cocktail, nicknamed the “Texas Apple Smash,” features Yellow Rose Blended Whiskey.
Making the cocktail is easy. Simply add one part Yellow Rose Blended Whiskey, one part apple juice, a dash of cinnamon and several drops of Yellow Rose Bourbon Barrel Aged Maple Syrup. The syrup is available directly from Yellow Rose Distilling, while their Blended Whiskey can be found at retail locations across the country.
Troy Smith, Yellow Rose master distiller commented: “We were happy to participate; it was great to see such a wonderful turnout at the event. This is the first large scale festival of this kind we have seen in Houston in some time.”

The Houston Whiskey Festival, held at the Julia Ideson Building on March 15th, featured tastings of over 50 different spirits. The festival benefited the Santana Dotson foundation which provides financial and emotional support needed by challenged, yet deserving high school students to realize their dream of a college education.
“Houston is a very charitable city and we were happy to participate in an event that gives back to the community,” said Baird. With over 1500 attendees and $13,000 raised for charity in the first year, the event is sure to become an annual tradition.
